The most effective forms of training capitalize on bonding with your puppy. They teach you to start bonding as soon as you get home with your puppy and to create a bond by providing everything your puppy needs. They also teach you to create bonds by never hitting or punishing your puppy and to handle your puppy frequently so he gets used to you and begins to trust you.
When your puppy has a strong bond with you, he is more likely to listen and it will lead to a lifetime of happiness for both of you.
Socialization:
Another very effective training method is puppy socialization. Socialization is a must with every dog and it should be an important part of your puppy’s and dog’s training. In addition, it should be a process that is done throughout life and not just in the early stages of his training.
Effective training methods utilize socialization and combine it with training. They encourage owners to train their puppy both in the comforts of a quiet room and in the business of a puppy socialization class so the puppy learns that no matter how exciting the distraction, the dog must listen.

Firmness:
To effectively train a dog, it is important to use a training system that stresses the use of firm tones that get results. Effective training does not allow the dog the opportunity to say no and follows through on every command the dog receives so if the dog doesn’t listen, he is corrected.
Positive Reinforcement:
As I have already said, the days of “spare the rod, ruin the dog,” are gone and trainers are now teaching owners how to use positive reinforcement. In fact, this is one of the most effective ways of training dogs and 90% of training systems use this.
With positive reinforcement, a trainer will use a form of bait (a treat) to entice the dog to do something. At point they give a command and then praise and treat the dog for doing it. Over time the dog begins to associate good things with certain behaviors and the absence of good things for others.
Repetition:
Lastly, regardless of the training method, repetition is one of the most effective ways of training dogs. A good rule of thumb is that a dog should do something 50 times before they are able to master a command and it should be spread out over a period of time. So, while a puppy may sit after the first few times you practice the command, he is not going to perfect it for a few more days or weeks to come.
The only thing that you shouldn’t repeat, when it comes to effective training, is a word. A command should only be given once and then the dog should be corrected and placed into the position with the use of bait.
